Military Laser Rangefinder Development Overview
The first generation (the first set of equipment for the U.S. Army in 1971) – ruby laser rangefinder (694nm)
Second generation (1977 to present) – Nd:YAG laser rangefinder (1064nm)
Third generation human eye safe wavelength laser rangefinder (10.6μm, 1.54μm, 1.57μm)
Basic principles and properties of lasers
1、What is laser (LASER)?
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation
-meaning light amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, i.e. “Light Amplification by Stimulated Radiation”
Early transliteration in China: “Radium”, “LASER”
In 1964, Academician Qian Xuesen suggested to use the term “laser” instead.
It has been used since then.
2、The difference between laser and ordinary light
The light emitted from ordinary light sources (tungsten, fluorescent, sunlight) is spontaneous radiation The light produced is incoherent, with extremely inconsistent frequency, wavelength, phase, and amplitude.
Lasers are light produced by excited radiation and are coherent light.
3、The three conditions of laser generation
4、Characteristics of laser
High brightness
high-precision and long-distance ranging laser rangefinder module made out of OPO lasers and detectors that both developed by ERDI Laser Ltd. It is a small, light and eye-safe laser rangefinder module with low power consumption.
